She specializes in couture wedding and bridesmaid gowns.Vera was born and raised in New York and continues to base her business in the same city. After spending 16 years as fashion editor for Vogue Wang left to pursue a career closer to the fashion industry. In 1985 she began working with Ralf Lauren as a design director. Five years later she opened her first boutique. Vera Wang has been on the forefront of fashion since her career began. She was single-handily responsible for changing the bridal industry which led to it becoming a billion dollar industry. Her collections are often referred to as sophisticated, dramatic and feminine.Wang is well-known for creating wedding gowns for some of the most famous women in Hollywood and beyond. The list of celebrity clients includes; Chelsea Clinton, Karenna Gore, Ivanka Trump,  Avril Lavigne, Jennifer Lopez to actresses such as Jennifer Garner, Sharon Stone, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Hilary Duff, Uma Thurman, Holly Hunter, Kate Hudson. She created the skating dress worn by Nancy Kerrigan when she placed silver in the 1994 Olympics games.

2000 saw Vera apply her love of couture fashion to a second collection, her first ready-to-wear line for women. The debut collection was successful and eventually led to her being named as Womenswear Designer of the Year from the Council of Fashion Designers of America. The collection encompasses Vera’s signature draping, layering and extreme attention to detail. Wang’s clothes tend to come off as lean, long and with a focus given to silhouettes, sheers and textural material. Here fashions are feminine. fun without being too girly or sweet. The vera wang Lavender Label collection is couture that is more accessible without giving up quality of the clothing. Her second full lower priced line of women’s clothes is called Simply Vera.

The Vera Wang brand creates a lifestyle which is far from just clothes. She has expanded her empire to include; shoes, fragrances, jewelry, accessories, eyewear, and houseware collections.Two additional home centric lines. These include The Vera Wang China and Crystal Collection. All the collections are considered on the luxury end of the fashion market.

Allure’s creative director (and former co-worker of Wang’s) Paul Cavaco say of Wang, “Vera loves clothes beyond loving clothes; she loves everything that has to do with clothes. This is not a make-believe love here; it’s the real thing.”
