Jimmy Choo is a Chinese fashion designer and the founder of Jimmy Choo Shoes. The company was founded in 1996 by Jimmy and Tamara Mellon a former accessories editor for Vogue UK. Born into a family of shoe producers, Choo made his first pair at age 11. He later attended college then began opened his own small workshop in North London. By 1986 Choo had a working studio and back manufacturing shoes. His attention to detail and masterful craftsmanship soon got his shoe recognized by the fashion world.In 1988 the Jimmy Choo brand was on the verge of stardom. That year his shoes were featured in an 8 page piece for Vogue. And months later Prince Diana had begun being pictured wearing the signature Choo shoe.

All of Choo’s productions are hand-made and his flawlesss techniques are evident from even the simplest details. The Choo style isn’t overly designed or flashy. His shoes are regarded as elegant, subtle and luxurious. The designer prefers colors like aqua, fuchsia and orange. His materials vary but silk and shantung are among his favorite. Another standby element has been the use of skins from fish to snakes, mainly due to their ability to absorb and keep color through dyes. He tends to use many different type of stones and crystals. The company’s high heels have been referred to as dainty, but deadly.

The company produces their lines of famous shoes with two seasonal releases. Over the years they have expanded to produce lines of eyewear, cosmetics, handbags, and accessories. Tamara Mellon, Choo’s former partner continued to work for the company before buying out Choo’s shares . She along with Choo’s daughter developed and presented the company’s women’s ready-to-wear collection.

The Jimmy Choo brand has 115 stores around the worl in 32 countries. There international flagship store is on  Bond Street,London. In 2000 Jimmy Choo was given the state title  of Dato’ by the Sultan of Pahangstate in Malaysia. He was also recognized by the Queen of England with an OBE for his life achievements. Although Jimmy Choo has left the company, he still has creative input and regular provides advice and direction. He currently works on developing a haute couture line which is a label currently apart of Jimmy Choo Limited.
